Colour Consultation Tips That Prevent Expensive Interior Repainting
Hopefully, when you have your home’s interior painted, you will be thrilled with the results. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, and we are talking about colour. In today’s blog article, we would like to give you some tips on choosing interior paint colours in order to avoid having to repaint earlier than needed—because you hate the colour you chose.
Time
The first rule is one of time. If you are planning to spend more than five years in your house, then you can allow yourself more freedom than if you are planning to resell your place sooner.
For purposes of resale, stick to neutrals like white, off-white, stone, taupe, or gray. These are colours that will go with any palette and will appeal to the most buyers.
Cohesion
The next principle is one of cohesion. Try to make your rooms looks cohesive. If possible stay within a colour family, or, for example, stick with shades and tones of the same colour as you move from room to room. Or stay with analogous colours, those colours that sit next to each other on the colour wheel.
Inspiration
If you want to be a bit more adventurous, then choose a painting or a photo that can serve as inspiration. Choose a couple of colours from your art to carry throughout the house. Remember that repetition is a good idea and adds to cohesion.
Experts
Talk to your professional painter who will have seen all kinds of colour schemes. Get some advice. You can even pay a designer for just an hour or two of colour advice.
Last, if you want to test some colours, test a large patch that is several feet by several feet. Look at the paint under different types of light for undertones. Paint can dramatically change the feel of a house, so take advantage of that to create your masterpiece.
