The Importance of Wall Preparation When Painting Your Coquitlam Home Interior

We are professional painters in the Coquitlam area on the Lower Mainland, and, today, we would like to talk to you about wall preparation for interior painting. Wall preparation is extremely important, but most homeowners do not understand how important it is and how walls should be prepared for painting and are prepared by professionals.
No matter how good of a painter you are, if the walls are not prepared properly, the paint result will not likely be very good. Proper preparation is absolutely essential for an excellent result. The reason for this is that before painting, walls may be dirty. They may be damaged. They may have holes or scars.
When walls are dirty, the paint may not adhere very well and may not cover like it should. Any damage to the wall that is not addressed will be seen after the walls are painted. Painting does not cover or camouflage a multitude of sins. Those have to be addressed before painting. So, below, we will give you an idea of how we prepare walls in Coquitlam.
Holes and Uneven Surfaces
Holes are filled and then sanded. Uneven surfaces are sanded. All nails and screws are removed and the holes are filled.
Mold
Mold has to be cleaned off the walls before painting, assuming that the drywall does not have to be replaced. Also, special primers must be used to seal the area. And the source of the mold should also be addressed before painting.
Dirt and Cobwebs
Dirt and cobwebs should be removed either with a damp sponge and soap and water or TSP, if needed. TSP stands for trisodium phosphate, and it is very effective at cleaning problem areas like a greasy kitchen or house that has been stained with nicotine. Sometimes vinegar or ammonia might be used instead.
Taping Off
Some painters will tape off certain areas, but not all painters do that. It depends on each painter’s personal habits. Also, sometimes primers are used, and sometimes they are not needed.
The above list is just a brief overview of what professionals do to prepare interior walls for painting. Professional painters will know exactly what needs to be done to achieve the best results for your walls.
