How to Protect Freshly Painted Surfaces When Moving Furniture
After you paint the walls or floors or your whole interior and it looks fabulous, then you have to move your furniture back into place. And it is pretty stressful getting your rooms back in order without damaging the freshly painted surfaces. So, in today’s blog article, we are going to give you some hints for how to get this done without destroying your new paint surfaces.
The most important thing to understand is that paint needs time to cure. Different paints take different amounts of time, with oil-based paints taking the longest. Also, the more new coats of paint you have, the longer the cure time. The lesson here is wait, if you can, before putting the rooms back together. Wait a few days or even a week to let the paint dry and cure as much as possible. This will significantly reduce your risk of damaging the new paint.
Floors
This is especially true for floors that have been painted. They are at the highest risk of being damaged when you move furniture around. Try to use felt or fabric sliders to push furniture. Better yet, lift the furniture so it does not have to drag at all.
Walls
For walls, if you are worried, tape some cardboard sheets or plastic if you do not have cardboard to the wall so as not to gouge anything. Cover your furniture with padding or blankets when you move it. Get some extra people to help if your pieces are heavy.
If you need to tape something to the painted surface use painter’s tape which is the only one that is not likely to damage the surface. Move slowly and deliberately. Take your time. Worst case your painter probably left you a little paint to touch up some surfaces if needed.
