Believe it or not, there are some best practices for maintaining interior painted surfaces. In today’s blog article, we are going to list for you the most common and easiest things to do to keep your interior walls looking like new.
Dusting
Yes, you should be dusting your walls. Once a month is plenty with a slightly damp cloth. Use something long handled to get cobwebs out of the corners, and there may be some cobwebs on the walls, too. Like most cleaning tasks, the more often you do it, the less work it is. If someone highly allergic to dust lives in the home, then you may want to do this more often, like twice a month.
Smudges and Stains
Try to clean this as soon as you notice them. Use a damp rag or sponge, first. You could try a little mild dish soap next. Magic Eraser might work if the two previous methods fail. The point is that the longer dirt and stains stay on wall paint, the harder they are to remove.
We do not recommend harsh chemicals or anything abrasive. Sometimes, you may need something stronger for cleaning, and in that case, we would recommend contacting your painter and asking his or her opinion.
With normal wear and tear, expect interior walls to need to be repainted roughly every 10 years, and more often for children’s rooms or children’s play areas. Regular maintenance of your painted walls, such as described above, will go a long way to making your walls look good for as long as possible.
