Using Ceiling Paint in Modern Home Interior Design

Traditionally, most people make their ceilings white, no matter what colour the walls are. However, today, in modern home interior design, ceilings can be lots of things other than white. In today’s blog, we are going to talk about how ceiling paint can be used in design.

Same as Walls

One possibility is painting the ceiling the same as the walls. Even in a dark colour, having the ceiling the same colour as the wall can give a room an intimate and cozy feeling. You might want to try this in a bedroom or bathroom if you are scared to commit to a big room.

Lighter or Darker Than Walls

Another idea is to paint the ceiling slightly darker (a shade) or slightly lighter (a tint) of a wall colour. A colour that is related to the wall colour is not as harsh as white, and can give a room a cohesive, gift-wrapped look.

Contrasting Colour

Yes, you can even paint your ceiling a bright contrasting colour. This works particularly well if the walls are very neutral, like white or pale gray. Just make sure that the colour chosen for the ceiling relates to colours used in the room and/or throughout the house.

Architectural Details

One other possibility is to highlight some architectural details. For example, if you have crown moulding, then you may want that a lighter or darker colour, so that it is more visible. If you have exposed beams or a tray ceiling, those are also opportunities to highlight the details with different (but related colours).

Your ceiling does not have to be white anymore. You can be much more adventurous and creative and use the ceiling to your design advantage.
