There is an infinite number of colours to choose from. And colour on the wall plays a big role in how rooms “feel” to people inside a home. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about which colours make a room feel warm.
Some colours, such as red, orange, and yellow, are known as warm colours. But in addition to these colours, you also have to consider the tints and shades of colour. So, red, for example, does not have to be a fire-engine red. It can be a brick red or even red/brown.
Colours or hues to which white is added are called tints. Colours or hues to which black is added are called shades. So, to make a room feel warm and cozy, almost any color that is shaded darker will be warmer than one tinted to a lighter colour.
But choosing something in the red/orange or yellow family will always feel warm. Even a soft creamy yellow or peach colour will feel much warmer than white or pale gray.
Another way to make a room feel cozier is to paint the ceiling, and to definitely add some window treatments. Also, don’t be afraid to use a dark colour in a small room like a study, or dining room, or bathroom. The use of a dark colour (shade) can make a space feel warm, dramatic, intimate, and gift-wrapped.
